Meet the Team

doc jacobs

Doc Jacobs - President, CEO and Co-Founder.

Doc initially came up with the idea to fund sports scholarships for children of military families while he was trying out for professional baseball. During Doc's training, purchasing sporting equipment, paying trainers/coaches, league fees and traveling fees, he realized how much it cost and how many children of military and veteran families may not be able to have a chance at their dreams because of the costs. Doc enlisted two of his most trusted and reliable fellow veterans, Ron Friedli and Mario Borrego, to help fine tune this idea and turn it from a dream into reality.

Prior to starting the Doc Jacobs Foundation Doc served 8 years and 2 months on Active Duty as a Navy Corpsman. Doc was injured 6 and 1/2 months into his 1st (and only) deployment. Doc spent 2 years rehabilitating himself and returned to Full Active Duty. In doing so, Doc became the 1st Amputee in Naval History to serve with an infantry unit as an Amputee. After Doc's time on Active Duty he was invited to tryout for a few professional baseball teams. Doc is beyond grateful for all of the love, encouragement and support that has led to building the Doc Jacobs Foundation. He vows to give his all to ensure things are done right by and for all involved. Doc invites you to help in anyway, be it; volunteering (time), donations (financial) or just sharing our mission (love and support).

Ron Friedli – Secretary and Co-Founder

In 2007, Ron sought to assist service members that have been deployed, wounded, and even Gold Star Families.

Ron first joined Soldiers Angels & starting writing letters to wounded service members at Walter Reed.

He then donated backpacks to wounded service members at Landstuhl Germany.

He then realized that he could be doing more by adopting deployed Marines, Soldiers, and Sailors.

In January 2011, he became a Volunteer at The Warrior Transition Unit at San Diego Naval Hospital and has been a significant assistant in doing so.

While working on board The USS Midway Navy Museum Ron was meeting Marines, Soldiers & Sailors getting ready to Deploy. He started adopting them. Ron started doing as such since 2008.

He has been sending Care Packages to those forward deployed for the last 9 years.

Ron has been an intricate part of forming the Doc Jacobs Foundation and we are beyond grateful to have him and look forward to many more years with him on board.
